Between October 26 and 30 – 2008, I’ve been fortunate to attend the Software Development Best Practices Conference in Boston MA. Apart from the opportunity of listening and free talking to people like Ken Schwaber, Bjarne Stroustrup, Mike Cohn or Scott Ambler, it has been a great time to visit a very beautiful city.

So after the Conference, you were cetified to be a Scrum Master? As a Tech Lead, were you the first one to deal with agile developement issues in your company? Which practices you are executing now? What kind problems do you directly face in such kind of mentality and processes?

There were no certifications issued at the end of the conference, there were mostly presentations and open discussions.
We’ve set up a team in our company, composed mainly of leads and other key people, that aims to help people understand the benefits of adopting the Agile approach and practices. The most popular turned out to be the daily scrum, planning poker and we are now implementing unit testing.
In the beginning, people used to be rather skeptic and reserved regarding to the new ideas, but as time passed, we’ve all managed to understand the principles and adopt the practices that were really helpful for us at the given time. However, I think the greatest challenge is to “convert” the Product Management and Marketing departments to the Agile way of thinking, estimating and planning.
